Vector art doesn't have to be all hard edged, it can be used in a much more painterly manner. This is an old cut, slightly smoky liqueur glass, which I had sitting on my computer table drawn directly using a Volito Wacom tablet.

Using Serif DrawPlus X2, I first did a couple of quick shapes (not shown, converted them to curves to squish them into a better shape. The edges are done by the straight line tool.

The rest is just the pen tool. By using varying transparencies I build up the picture. When I've got most of the shape, I hide the outlines and carry on. It's easy to adjust the transparency of any object at any time.
