"Del Cowart", involved in that Sportsman crash, is better known as Delma Cowart. He annually attempted Daytona and Talladega in his 0 car.

@altfactor Walter WAS there, and was for the next few years. The 500 WAS covered by CBS for news/topical coverage....according to the literature of the time...but it was NOT shown LIVE. CBS came back to Daytona in 1960 with the SPORTS SPECTACULAR for a 90 minute LIVE program shown 4 shorts races for compact NASCAR cars. Walter WAS a part of the 1960 broadcast as well, along with Bud Palmer...who, sas to say, can't recall the broadcast,...and band lead/car owner Paul Whiteman.
