Informally known as Dehiwela Zoo.
Used to be one of the best Zoos in Asia and was world famous. But now it is in a deteriorated state and i feel for animals.
There however remains a good collection of animals and birds there.
Look out for the albino cobras which the zoo has more than one.
And those two jaguars are male. They were not mating. Most likely trying to show dominance, homosexuality, or frustration at not having female partners

  • i visited the zoo on 22nd december 2009. It is a sad story. In 79/80 I was a member and an official at Young Zoological Gardens. Hoping at least it remains same visited to almost 60% Empty cages and 10% broken cages. And Aquarium is just a desserted place. Unclean and so sad about those innocent animals. Heard many stories what happend to those tigers and lions and crocodiles - true or false I dont know.
