A wonderful collection of short archive clips depicting London's Victoria Station in steam days, in 1938, 1945, 1946 and 1955.

1938: 'King Arthur' N15 Class No.781 'Sir Aglovale' departs with ex-SE&CR H Class 0-4-4T No.1546 piloting.

1945: 'Lord Nelson' LN Class No.855 'Sir Robert Blake' departs as 'Schools' V Class 4-4-0 No.938 'St. Olaves' arrives.

1945: 'Lord Nelson' LN Class No.853 'Sir Richard Grenville'

1945: 'Lord Nelson' LN Class No.855 'Sir Robert Blake' again.

1945: 'King Arthur' N15 Class No.772 'Sir Percival' with experimental smoke deflectors and ex-SE&CR C Class 0-6-0 No.1753 piloting.

1945: 'Lord Nelson' LN Class No.850 'Lord Nelson'.

1945: 'Lord Nelson' LN Class No.853 'Sir Richard Grenville' departs with an unidentified ex-London Chatham & Dover Railway T Class 0-6-0T piloting.

1945: 'King Arthur' N15 Class No.795 'Sire Ector de Maris'.

1945: Ex-SE&CR B1 Class 4-4-0, number not recorded.

1946: 'Lord Nelson' LN Class No.864 'Sir Martin Frobisher'.

1955: BR Standard Class 4 2-6-4T, number not recorded.

  • Looks as if it could be; not sure about the ID of the following vehile either. That Pullman was the sixth carriage, not to sure how many were following as the film stopped. Pretty heavy train though (Clarification appreciated)

  • Kent Coast Express bound for Ramsgate. No details on the Pullmans(Pullmen? Pullpersons?)or the length of the train. I have been studying some pictures of 12-wheelers recently and am quite confident that the first Pullman is, the second isn't. You can play 'count the axleboxes; between 7:07 and 7:11.

  • Gents a 12 wheeler appears several times in this film. Don't want to split hairs but the L1 didn't enter service untill 1926, she is Southern with Midland influence. A natural follow on from the E1 and D1 which were South Eastern, and If I may be so bold, just as sexy as the L1. Keep up the good work.

  • oh my goodness grasus me i remeber traveling to victoria just to get the bournemeth belle it must have been about 1929 when i first traveled to bournemeth on my own i! i remeber getting on board and the first thing the coach steward said to me was what will sir be having for lunch and was i comfertable i remeber before i always got on board i shook the driver and firemans hand some times i would offther them a cigarettes then later i would offer them cigars it was about 1934 when i did that
