Eating Disorders 101 (ED 101), sponsored by Timberline Knolls, is a free educational tool provided by the NORMAL nonprofit which educates about eating disorders. The film is intended to serve as an introduction to eating disorders and accompanied by a panel of medical professionals who specialize in the treatment of eating disorders.

ED 101 is the result of more than five years of work and is possible due to ongoing support from Joanne and Daniel C. Smith, the Pink House Foundation, Hilda & Preston Davis Foundation, NIS First 100 Club, Innovative Women's Producer's Network and patrons. We are grateful to be collaborating with more than 15 national nonprofit organizations to distribute this DVD to schools worldwide.

For free resources, handouts and guidelines on how to create an effective discussion panel, please visit www.normal-life.org/ED_101.php

NORMAL nonprofit is working to create a three hour version which incorporates a myriad of perspectives and angles not covered in this shorter piece. For example, we will include footage from diverse socio-economic and cultural families, LGBT perspectives, as well as footage about treatment of men with eating disorders.

  • " You can't cause an eating disorder by talking about it" There has been research out there saying that talking about eating disorders can lead to more eating disorder behaviours, because people get ideas on how to binge/ purge and restrict. One research study in college students that i read for school talks about that. " Testing Mediators of Intervention Effects in Randomized Controlled Trails: An evaluation of Two Eating disorder Programs." Plus when I went to an eating disorder

  • @edpinkgurl the research shows that any curricula that provides instruction on "how to" act out on eating disorders does give individuals the "wrong" kind of information. Since eating disorders are complex, biological illnesses, individuals have to be pre-disposed with certain neurobiology in order to be able to contract the illness. You can't cause an eating disorder by talking about it... unless the curriculum is a "HOW TO" act out on an eating disorder... which ED 101 clearly is not.

  • Also, I would LOVE to see this musical! where can we see it? x

  • @wishlets We are working to get a tour together on the East Coast (New York City, New Jersey and Boston areas first). We are also fundraising to create a FILM of the musical ... hopefully by 2012!
