@snatale1 Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Brookline, Watertown, & a dozen more cities bordering Boston would fit snuggly into one or two NYC Burroughs. So the accent goes a bit farther than you think but I do agree with your premise that the thick Boston accent doesn't travel as far as some people believe. I contend that it is pervasive in 2.5 million people in the Greater Boston area, not just the 600,000 of Boston Proper as you stated.
