This video is part two and advancing the sacking out and acceptance of the scary hose to this horse.

This horse was tied to bad tie point and pulled a rail lose and dragged it 50 feet scared to death. Now the horse is scared of a hose since the person scared the horse with the hose and started the chain reaction that scared the horse. So I introduce the horse to hose, present it in a non-threatening way and let the horse know what is going to happen before it happens. Slowly I get the horse to ignore the hose and help the horse learn that the hose will not hurt him and his fear is necessary. After I do this at a good secure tie point where the horse CANNOT break free, then I in Part 2 I do a little more advanced in a round pen and eventually get the horse to accept the hose over his back and walking over it with minimal fear. This is a long way from a horse pulling a metal pipe wash rack out of the ground and running blindly and wildly dragging the wash rack thinking he is being chased by huge metal wash rack all caused by a hose..... opps I forgot a human controlled the hose and tied the horse to wash rack.... stupid horse??

  • So if the owner comes up and totally telegraphs how the Roper should react to the hose, it'll start all over again and it won't be Mr. Roper's fault. My horse's thing was water being very bad. Not-so-bad that she did crazy things, she just was clearly not impressed. She'd play with a hose, she'd drink from a hose, but baths are not to be enjoyed. I shoulda done a better job there but she did behave at least.

  • @cyberg00se : If a horse does not like a bath, then it need to get hosed down every day and twice a day on hot days, in less than a week the horse will be fine and will not care about a bath.

  • I hate it when people use whips to work horses at all!!! Let alone putting a bag at the end... I've found that people who use whips usually crack it and get the poor horse scared to death so they run. (my grandfather is the one i saw this from)

He did it on my horse that was tied to a pole with a saddle on and she broke the lead and started bucking around the pasture...i hate to be disrespectful but i just said to myself...what an idiot!

  • @jupitarlove : I have that same thought everyday I see what some people do their horses.

  • I try to believe in the good in people. Perhaps they were using the bag whip to sack out their horse? Okay. I can hope.

  • I use granola nature valley bar when I'm sacking out my horses they like they honey and oats :)

  • you used a plastic bag on a wip to sack out a horse that could havebeen what they were doing

  • I like using food when horses are scared because they often hold their breath. But when they smell that treat they breath again! I don't actually reward the food until they calm down their bodies and drop their heads. Works really well.

Your videos are really good, but you should get a tripod or a buddy to hold that camera for you! :oP

  • My 7 year old niece is taking lessons. She now has a crop taller than she is, and she tries to "lunge" the family dachshund in a "show 'em who's boss" method. Yeah, she's learning that at the stable. She wasn't so rough before. :-(

At least the doxie has figured out that the girl is below her in the pecking order, and ignores her like a typical doxie does. And by that time the mom finally notices. Still though, every horse person recognizes the signs. :(

  • @TheCurious253 : horsemanship is a life long journey, it takes time and you never really finish, so keep learning.

  • @horseawareness sorry for asking a stupid question, i'm still trying to get used to seeing it from the horses point of view. for you, someone who has been around horses their whole life, this would come easy. but i still have a lot to learn. and at least i'm trying. but thanks for reminding me of this, i will think more carefully about my questions.
