@erthemama iron promotes bacteria in the gut and should be avoided in infant formula. One of the reasons babies will spit up all the time. Iron content in breast milk is very low. It's there for pure market greed.

@demonpreyer have you heard about ppl going to the doctor, testing for cancers every year and when they are 50, 55 years old hear from their doctor they are going to die because they didn't find their cancer earlier on? Doctors do not (always) test what they should be testing.. you may be fine now, but what's going to happen when all that toxic iron in your body keeps increasing till you have some horrible disease? Just think about that..

@allthings509 I've been eating iron fortified cereals for years with no problems. I had a blood test 7 months ago and my iron levels were normal. (Iron 143 µg/dL, IBC 384 µg/dL) I've been ingesting multivitamins with iron everyday for years and guess what? No problems. I had a physical examination 3 months ago and guess what? No problems. So I have no idea what you're commenting about. So I respectfully disagree with the notion that iron supplementing is dangerous and toxic.
-
@demonpreyer Iron supplementing is dangerous and toxic, the alternative is to get it by including foods naturally high in iron, if you are tested low in iron. Any kind of synthesised vitamin or other supplement will disrupt other processes in your body, it is best to choose whole foods blanced diet if you believe you are low on vitamin/minerals. Why do you think you need iron? have been tested?
-
@allthings509 I agree with you that iron is not easily or fully absorbed. I disagree that iron should only be prescribed by a doctor. If we're going to go down that route, then all vitamins and minerals need to be prescribed by a doctor, because all of them have adverse side effects when abused. Seriously, what next? Food needs to be prescribed by a doctor? When you do something like eating food, taking vits and mins, do everything in moderation. Works for me, I have no problems.
-
@demonpreyer Iron is not easily or fully absorbed, it depends on several factors. Supplementing with iron should only be prescribed by a doctor.Taking iron supplements when they are not needed can actually cause some adverse side effects, such as constipation and stomach upset. More seriously, excess iron levels have also been linked to such diseases as cancer, diabetes, heart disease and increased risk of infection.
