What a great trip! You need to tell us about your travel companions! I'll pray for your safe journeys and that your trip is fruitful. See Alcatraz. It's interesting and kinda creepy! And if you can get to Carmel and the surrounding area, it's beautiful and very artsy. I loved looking through all the little shops! Have fun! :)

My best childhood memories are of family road trips through Colorado, Wyoming, and South Dakota. If you can fit the SW corner of Colorado into your route, you will not be sorry. There is a loop around Durango, Silverton, and Teluride area that is so beautiful it is surreal. Mesa Verde National Park, a big site of cliff dweller's ruins, is also in that area. Be safe and absorb everything you can; we'll be at the beach!
