In this edition of "The Link" we focus on youth suicide prevention. September is back to school month and with the attention on youth we are faced with this statistic: Suicide is the 3rd leading cause of death among young people ages 15-24 in the U.S.

To raise attention to this fact "The Link" invited John Porter, Executive Director of ACT for Alexandria, a agency serving Alexandria City, VA to discuss his role and ACT's initiative to address mental health concerns of the youth in Alexandria. John Porter has spent over 40 years working in Alexandria City's public High Schools including 27 years as principal of T.C. Williams, High School.

Lindsay Paulette-Chapman, Volunteer Manger for CrisisLink and volunteer Kathleen Jordan discuss the topic of being a hotline listener. They discuss the desire to help, the training and support given to listeners and the rewarding feeling of knowing you can make a difference.

Marshall Ellis, Director of Development for CrisisLink introduces us to the Friend Campaign. He brings Musician Luke Mitchem who discusses his commitment to working with the Friend Campaign and performs a song just for us.

All this on this edition of "The Link".
