That looks like a stable splint but it is so bulky. How do you wash your hands with it on? Have you heard of Oval-8 splints? Do you use those in your clinic?

I have a metal splint that goes the whole finger length... also i didnt go to the doctor until a week after it happened.... is there a chance that it wont heal?

so what sports would this usually occur in?

This injury is most common in basketball where something strikes the tip of the finger avulsing the extensor tendon

so a regular splint that cover both sides wont work?

You could splint both sides but you want the person to still be able to flex the rest of the finger as much as possible. A splint on both sides will restrict that.
