I met this man tonight and he told me exactly why he did it this way! He was on his was to do the stretch but traffic was really bad so he got out of the car he was in, had to run into Wrigley, run up ALL of the stair into the press box. As soon as he walked into the press box, he was handed the mic and was told that he was on. Winded, he did the stretch as quickly as possible.

yes...Ditka sang several more times but he usually had someone with him. Once he sang with Will Ferrell.

Lol..probably. Now the organ player doesn't even try to keep up with the singer. The crowd is much louder (and more in-tune) than the conductor.
Ditka went so fast that WGN didn't have time to pan the crowd!
