Nick Bockwinkel vs The Crusher (1984)

Bockwinkel wasn't a shell of himself towards the end of his career though. Hogan, Flair, Piper,Sting, and Luger stayed past their prime and continued to work even though they were phoning it in. Bockwinkel, on the other hand, was still one of the best workers around. Bockwinkel is the Joe Dimaggio of wrestling, he got out while he was still on top (although Nick gave back to the biz on the way out as all the greats in wrestling do).

Nick was great on the stick

An excellent fight. Two great fighters.

the crusher is the man of brawling.

Lets see... Da Crusher was a beer swilling, sh*t talking brawler and "blue-collar champion" who was fond of using heel tactics despite being a fan-favorite...
...yet so many claim that Stone Cold got his gimmick from The Sandman.

Bockwinkle and Crusher could work well into their 50s because they were from a time when copious amounts of drugs and hormones weren't a prerequisite for becoming a wrestler... just in case anyone needs any more proof that Vince McMahon ruined wrestl... I mean... "sports entertainment."

Yeah they were old guys but they paved the way for the industry. Those gentlemen made my sunday mornings as kid most enjoyable in the 70's and early 80's.

Yeah, but how many 50 yr olds look like Bockwinkel? Hell, Crushers looked like he still took care of himself
-
according to Wikipedia, he was 21 when he started.

What would happen, oh my fantasies as I drink.

Gotta love Slick Nick.
I grew up in Crockett Country, and saw many great Flair-Steamboat matches when the two were at their prime; having said that, the best match I ever saw live was a Bockwinkel-Steamboat match in Hampton Roads, VA.
Bockwinkel came into Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling as defending AWA champion but not with Heenan. Not sure how many other matches Nick had in MACW, but that match against Steamboat was just super smooth. Went 20 minutes or so to a double countout.
Nick Bockwinkel, at age 50 playing the young arrogant heel. Granted he could def. still work, but man, people thought WCW had an age problem.

This match is from The AWA not WCW and if you think Bockwinkel is old the man he is wrestling in this video The Crusher was 58 at the time.
