The use of computers and digital devices has become part of every day life, with many households owning laptops, games consoles, digital cameras, Sat Navs and external hard drives.

Computers can be used to commit all kinds of crime from bullying and paedophile activity to terrorism and serious and organised crime.

To stop criminals in their tracks, Essex Police has a team of specialist officers known collectively as the Hi-Tech Crime Unit.

The team help operational police officers put criminals behind bars by searching seized computers for evidence in their lab at headquarters in Chelmsford.

Here Ds Vicky Denmark and Dc Dave Nash reveal how.
