My two cents on aquarium lighting in my tanks and the difference between the two. This video goes into a little detail to figure out if you have too much or too little lighting and also talks about a PAR value chart where you can check yours.

  • can you post the link to this website plz

  • @bradv97 which one? fishtanktv. com you can find the info

  • hey i have a 20 gallon long with 45 watts of t8, are there any plants i shouldnt try to grow?

  • @bigdodenigga You are well into medium high light in a 20 long just because the tank is that short. I would stay away from higher light plants though (Glosso, etc.) just in case...so many options

  • is that a t5 daylight? :)

  • @ericmos100 6500k and 5000k spectrum...but yes, 5000k is generally regarded as "daylight" bulbs

  • I don't want to sound stupid but I am way new to this. Can you have that type of light fixture over a tank with a cover? I have fish that jump so, I need a covered tank. Can I put it over a glass top? Currently only have a stock light system over a 4 foot long tank 2 lights with only 1 bulb each of T8 bulb. Not a lot of light. I just don't want to risk the light falling into the tank either.

  • could i replace the 15 watt bulbs that came wit my tank with 32 watts? same length and t8 of course.

  • Hey Shane i have a question. I have a 5 gallon tank with 1 CFL plugged in. It is full spectrum and is 10 watts with 600 lumens. The tank is about 10 inches total, but i have like a 3 inch substrate which i know is a lot but i overdid it on the dirt and gravel. Anyways it seems like that would be in the top of high lighting in the graph is it? Thanks

  • can you please give the link to the post about compact fluorescent. i'm interested i doing the same for my tank. thanks! and nice vid learned a lot.

  • Is there such a thing as to much lighting? Other than the type of plants your growing. I'm running 4 X 43watt cfl 6500k 1050 intensity bulbs on my 29 gallon and now it seems like everything is growing out of control especially the algea I swear I can't win with this aquarium plant growing stuff!

  • I'm curious, does the bulb tend to get dimmer after a while? My aquarium light seems to be doing that..I'll certainly replace it, but I just wasn't sure.

  • Hi,

Can you send the link to me on the light fixture from walmart that that guy had because i have 2 10 watt bulbs on my 14 gallon and it gets a lot of light from the big glass window to my deck outside. My water wisteria, java fern, and rotala indica are all doing good and most of my plants are but should i use fertiliizers and co2? Should I upgrade my lighting? Could you tell me where my lighting would be on that scale? it's 16 inches high.

  • did i hear someone making a forex entry????
