Watch the Discovery launch from cameras on the solid rocket boosters! Awesome views from where no human can otherwise see, you'll see the launch, booster separation, Discovery and external tank flying on, parachutes deploying, splashdown and more. You'll also hear sounds on two of the cam views, the first at about 14:50. Discovery's final launch was on February 24, 2011.

This NASA video is brought to you by the Coalition to Save Manned Space Exploration. Find out how YOU can help save the space program and go to the Moon, Mars and beyond in THIS decade or soon after!

  • who picks up the rockets? the navy or what?

  • @geminilover1924 NASA has boats which recover them to return for future use. I do not know what they will do with the boosters now that the shuttles are ending. Hopefully they will be stored so a more forward-looking government can use them for future heavy lift systems to go the Moon or Mars or to sell them to private launch companies.

  • whats this thing at 13:46 ?

  • @TothAnubis My guess is it is the drogue chute deploying to slow and stabilize the booster, in advance of the main parachutes. Those who know are invited to share their knowledge.

Be sure to visit our main website, SaveMannedSpaceDOTcom and call Congress in support of saving the space program.

  • I love the soundclip. First time I hear the sound of a rocket in space. The UFO is a part of the parachuting rocket... I believe.
