  • I'm so sad that Anita has died. I was shocked when I heard the news on Sunday morning. She was one of the few remaining connections to the silent era to still be alive. Fay Wray was the last silent star to have died before Anita. In 2003, I wrote to Anita because I was so excited that a silent film star was still alive and I wanted her to know my love of silent film stars. She sent me an autographed picture that I treasure.

    RIP Anita (1910-2008).

  • i didn't know she was half salvadoran thats awesome lol

  • I had the honor to meet her. Even towards the end, she was such an honorable and gracious lady.

  • One of the most beautiful movie stars ever!

  • I read somewhere else that she was of Spanish ancestry and that her Grandfather was from El Salvador. It is not clear if he was born there or if either of her parents were, as well.

Still, we'll claim her! As we do with Rosemary Casals, Christy Turlington, but NOT Allison Iraheta :)

  • What a great little clip, I really enjoyed viewing it, thank you for posting.

  • @metalmachine69 I thought both her parents were Salvadorans of Spanish extraction.

Are you sure she's half? If so, would you happen to know her mother's ethnic background?

  • They're all so beautiful. It's funny that 10 or so years before they weren't so much. I mean, it mustn't have just been the lack of makeup or the well covering clothes, it's just that the "beautiful woman" wasn't the same as the ones from the 1920s onward.

  • @lpvcrcd Hi lpvcrcd, sorry for my late reply. I've been busy at work, therefore, I haven't had time to check Youtube more often. Anita wasn't listed at the list of the most beautiful women because she was blackballed by Irving Thalberg for her refusal to sleep with him. Because of that, her fame ended until the 1970s, when silent film stars where rediscovered thanks to the work of Kevin Brownlow, the renowned silent film historian.

  • is that Joan Crawford? [or AKA Lucille Leseur ] Excuse my spelling---Tremendous era

  • @astralagosto very nice story --- wasn't she always listed at or near the top of fthe most beautiful women list in Hollywood ---I may be wrong

  • @motorcitymiguel Yeah I was lucky. I wish I could met her too. She was a real movie star.
