This is a video which shows Microsoft Word and Apple iTunes running on a Linux Ubuntu (Jaunty) system. This is accomplished with a free Sun tool called VirtualBox. It's similar to VMware, but has a feature called 'seamless mode' which I have used here to integrate the XP desktop and GNOME desktop environments together. It makes Windows Applications extremely usable under Linux.

  • one question: why? banshee works great, and openoffice even suports more formats!

  • @LinuxShogoki - I don't use either, personally. The 'why' is because these are two common programs that Windows users say they can't live without, in my experience. Setting it up like this, it can aid users with the transition to Linux.

  • Come to think of it, I can't get Windows XP (virtualbox) to recognize the MS office cd I loaded either? What's up with that?
