On June 21, 2008, the Chinese Government, against great opposition from hundreds of thousands of people all over the world, ran the Beijing Olympic Torch through the streets of Lhasa, Tibet. The "Journey of Harmony" was not so harmonious—city streets were reportedly heavily armed with Chinese military personnel who set up barbed wire barricades and restricted access to only a select few onlookers.
The Chinese Government faces a tremendous opportunity at this time in history. His Holiness the Dalai Lama is now considered "the world leader" and someone who can unite all people in true harmony. It is time for China to take steps towards correcting the mistakes of the past in exchange for a solution to, in the words of Professor Robert Thurman, China, Tibet and the world.
One world—one dream—free Tibet now.
