"Racist" my @Ass ! NOBODY working ON the show EVER complained. It's always someone ELSE whining, this great Show employed Dozens of Black actors in a time when only MAYBE 2% could even GET on a TV show. The characters on this program were of Prominence ie:Police,Museum Curators, judges,Doctors etc etc etc. no other TV show has even SINCE had THAT many Black actors in Prominent Non-Stereotypical roles!

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) complained that it sterotyped blacks in America so the show was discontinued. Not one black complained about this show. My family and I watched it and always laughed until we cried.

@cmsdude2222 I used to watch this show here in England where it was also very popular during the mid-fifties. I could never understand why it was discontinued. The humour and its delivery was superior to most other shows and I don't regard it in the least bit offensive. Had the cast been white it would have continued, but it would have been of inferior quality. I just hope that these superb comedy actors were able to make a good living despite the interference of fools. I wish you peace.

I remember watching this show as a kid, and even blacks enjoyed it. The only complant came from the nnacp

One of if not the best show ever. The actors were some of the best ever. The NAACP messed up working to get Amos and Andy taken off just like they did with Shirley Sherrod. They owe it to these great performers to try to get them the accolades they so richly deserve.

by far the funniest show in the history of television!

parody of negro life?
This is priceless comedy! Who cares if they are black, white or yellow it is just so damned funny. A&A was a big hit that is all but forgotten in the PC era we live in now.

Many of the script writers, producers, and directors from A&A went on to work on another classic Fifties comedy that was less controversial, Leave It To Beaver. The Beaver could chew the King's English too. The cast is all but forgotten which is a shame. They had brilliant comedy timing learned from years spent in vaudeville. I can't even imagine how popular someone like Johnny Lee would be in the comedy clubs today. Most of the current stand-ups couldn't hold a candle to him.
