brilliant record from a great year 1965
-
Berry Gordy only had limited resources to spend on promotion....and he had to put those into the song that was gonna make the most money.....and the Supremes were paying the company's wage bills...

Cal and Bertha love in Kalamazoo. Milly and Norma live in Flint

This song and A Bird in the Hand are my favorites. Whitfield's production is excellent on both, the Velvelettes sing wonderfully, and the Funk Brothers play the hell out of both songs (listen to Jamerson's bass line in A Bird in the Hand). I can't figure out why they missed being bigger hits, except for promotion.

It has that Motown Sound for sure. Good record. Should have been a bigger hit, but the Berry Gordy had his mind on the Supremes. Thanks for posting.

It looks like they all got back together in the late 80's or 90's and still performed well. Can anyone provide details...?

You're right, this definitely should have been a hit, with all that talent behind it. It did make Cash Box's charts in 1965.
