"Ludwig has denied having anything to do with the bombings.
On CBC Radio's The Current on Monday, Ludwig wanted to focus on talking about the effects the oil and gas industry have on human health rather than whether he is the bomber or knows the bomber.

"Ludwig got stung by a sting at his last trial, the presiding judge
slamming the RCMP for leaning on a paid informant a guy who'd
sustained a brain injury and suffered from badly impaired memory who'd
sold Ludwig four sticks of dynamite in 1998. There was also a staged
explosion that, Ludwig's defence argued, was part of a conspiracy
orchestrated by the RCMP, oil companies and local organizations to nail
the notorious farmer.

Disingenuous would also describe the 1,785-word letter he's never been
short for words Ludwig directed at The Bomber in September. Despite
the preamble cited above, Ludwig claimed to have no idea who was
sabotaging the pipelines. The "everybody does" referred, in fact, to his
long-time panorama of enemies: "(T) he oil industry knows better than
any of us that they are the `first cause' of all this and, as such, the
real culprits and the bullies the RCMP should be arresting."

Conviction notwithstanding, he continued to portray himself as the
unjustly persecuted victim, thus exquisitely situated to probe the
provocateur's mind and intentions. "With all that history of unresolved
conflict of oil and gas field tragedies we endured, I naturally feel
deeply sympathetic to your plight as I know many others do who have also
suffered similarly."

This from a man who'd never expressed an iota of sympathy for the
teenage girl who was killed on his property on June 20, 1999. Karman
Willis, 16, caught a bullet in the chest during a joyride with friends.
Her murder has never been solved but Ludwig who'd intimidated and
frightened neighbours for years gracelessly compared the teen
unfavourably to his own irreproachable daughter, a goat-herding lass at
their back-to-nature commune, an ostensible Alberta Shangri-La where
children were never sent to school and womenfolk in aprons knew their
place. When moved to punish the females for some perceived infraction,
Ludwig shaved their heads.

In his letter, Ludwig fretted over the $1 million reward offered by
EnCana for information leading to the bomber's arrest, which he claimed
was making neighbour suspicious of neighbour and tearing the community
apart. He claimed authorities had come to him for assistance in
developing an eco-terrorist "profile" and that he'd agreed to help halt
the sabotage, hence the letter.

While tacitly congratulating The Bomber for reinvigorating "valuable
discussion" of gas well flaring "you've truly woken a lot of people
up" he cautioned that rage expressed through violence "was not wise or
helpful."
