Some people see this song as a kind of anthem. In my opinion Johnny Hobo emphasizes human suffering and misery with no hope for change. Maybe we have to look at pat the bunny in general, having stopped singing these songs and now having checked himself into rehab... I think we are witnessing through his music the life of a hopeless man as he finds meaning in his life.
