Thailand battles Dengue fever - 17 Oct 08

Thailand is taking steps to battle Dengue fever, a crippling disease spread by mosquitos that is sweeping through South East Asia.

Al Jazeera's Selina Downes reports from Bangkok on the Thai authorities' efforts to tackle the disease.

I got bite in Pattaya on my little finger, my hand and arm went massive! the pain was unbeleavable, I lost all the use of my hand, I spent 10 days in hospital at a cost of £2000 had many antibiotic drips and an mri scan, I didnt get Dengue fever but my hand still hurts and I may need an operation on my hand in the UK, I hate mossies, make sure you wear plenty insect repellent, I started to get the use of my hand back when the swelling went down, but it still hurts a bit 3 months later.

i've got it 5 month ago in malaysia , and today i feel that sadly i've got it again...really be careful guys..it can lead to dengue shock and can be fatal second time.. i hope its not my second dengue

This is really devastating..it breaks me to know that there isn't a cure. I currently have a younger brother in the Philippines fighting for his life who has contracted Dengue :'(
