The Goons (and specifically Spike Milligan who wrote most of the material, including this song), were as basic an influence to Monty Python as Elvis, Chuck Berry and Buddy Holly (and, perhaps, even the Goons), were to the Beatles.

@VaderTime001 The Muppets was very strongly influenced by the Goons, and both Milligan and Sellers had guest shots on the show (seasons 3 and 2, respectively, where this song showed up in season 5), so... (Tellingly, the Muppet Wiki page on the Goon Show is more extensive than those for some of the Muppets.)

I agree that the pictures were better with the Goons on radio, but this song will never die. A grateful planet thanks the dear Muppets and Scooterpiety for keeping it alive.
