John Butler Trio Studio web blog 24th June, 2009

John Butler introduces us to the new JBT lineup and a walk through the new studio.

Melbourne musician Nicky Bomba will feature as the new drummer and percussionist. Nicky has been a prominent member of the Melbourne music scene with his band Bomba and is a prolific songwriter, performer and producer in his own right. Nicky was also the principle drummer on JBTs five times platinum album Sunrise Over Sea.

Sydney musician Byron Luiters will feature as the new bass player. Byron is a talented dynamic bassist who has been a member of the Sydney outfit Ray Mann Three. John, Nicky and Byron commenced recording of the new studio album earlier this month and are thrilled with progress so far.

John Butler said today,

Over the last twelve years of the JBT, I have been blessed with some amazing individuals. All have left their legacy and have raised the musical bar of the band. With any new incarnation it has always been an honour and challenge to meet the benchmark the band has achieved artistically and take it to the next level. Its great to be playing with Nicky again and Byron brings a whole new level of melody, funk and Mojo to the Trio. Very exciting times.

Stayed tuned to johnbutlertrio.com as we make changes around the site and add updates from the studio sessions! Look forward to the first single later in the year.

  • This song really sound good! I wonder why you didn't put it inside april uprising!

  • So strange that I've just kinda come to accept the new band as normal. Almost forgot the old days, god damn did JB pick a hell of a new band though

  • @beals711 Yes, you may.

  • The song(s) in the background sound so amazing. Anyone know the name(s)?

  • @miertjie94 I hope you is fucking kidding!! can I get a thumbs up?

  • which song is that on 0:24 ?

  • man its kind of dissapointing the new band....

  • @chewiekorrow I guess it's a normal reaction that certain fans get rather sceptic when an artist changes direction. But hey, look at Bob Dylan when he changed to electric guitar, he ended up allright making great music.

  • it looks like he'd be a dick

  • @justseanmusic, no they didnt, john butler said he felt the need for change and decided it was time to get new members :/
