@circusboy90210 I never said it did. The same lack of an organization to uphold the laws allows that Japanese to break them, and allows Sea Shepherds to break just as many, if not more. Like I said I am not defending Sea Shepherd. I am just saying that in this 1 incident, it was the Japanese who are at fault.

@ArodWingfoot that does not give ss any rights to do what they are doing without expecting to have repercussions legal or not when the japs are attacked physically with stink bombs and being rammed, they have the right to defend themselves. what ss is considered terrorism and if the country ss does not prosecute them could be considered as an act of war.

There are more laws they break, but there is a short list. Well every maritime expert agrees it was the Shonan Maru at fault. How could they feel threatened by a little boat that was just drifting, then why did they turn toward it 5 minutes prior to the crash? They wheren't cut off, they purposefully turned toward the Gil long before they struck

@ArodWingfoot japan is within the law by doing"research" , but whether or not they are breaking the law is not up to sea sheppard to enforce anything. however I don't blame the japanese for ramming them . they were interferring with an enterprise that is none of their concern legally, the crew of the shonan maru most probably felt threatened, so they took what they thought was appropriate action, defending their turf and ship. your right about fuel figures.

@circusboy90210 Incorrect, the Earthrace had a tank off about 3000 gallons, which would only fuel it's trip half way around the world, if it was moving 6 knots.Considering most the time they where moving 25 to 30 knots, (Occasionally at top speed as well) the fuel burned out very quickly. I have read the books, Japan is breaking many laws with impunity. But I am not defending Sea Shepherds, they are a morally bankrupt society. I am only saying that the Shonan Maru by all accounts is at fault.

@ArodWingfoot that vessel was capable of circumnavigating the globe on a tank of fuel, they should have fueld before the planned encounter. they planned to harrass these hard working innocent people. the people on the boat are just doing a job to feed their family's if anyone is criminal it's the nation of japan. however they are still within the law. read a few books before you go defending people that are terrorizing innocent people on the high sea.

@insanelygr8hair their use of that high tecnology and art while illegally harrasing legal actions by the japanese boat is what made it happen. the japanese boat considered itself to be under attack, so it defended itself. (does not matter if the japs are legal or not it's none of sea sheppards affair as they are not law enforcement. ) sea Sheppard is totally terrorist.
