Acetone and Styrofoam

The Acetone is not actually "dissolving" the Styrofoam. Here is what is happing. When styrofoam is placed in acetone, the long polymer strands are dissolved, releasing the trapped air and causing the structure to disintegrate. However, the insoluble crosslinked parts of the polymer keep the polystyrene from dissolving entirely, in much the same way as buoys on nets keep the entire net from sinking to the bottom of a lake. Once the acetone evaporates, you are left with a hard crosslinked polystyrene residue.

step one: mix gasoline with the acetone, about 50/50.

Step two: pour the mixture into a large container.

step three: crumple up half a piece of paper and saturate it heavily in acetone, gasoline, or alcohol.

Step four: stick a thick toothpick through the paper, and stick the other end innto the top of a block of styrofoam.

step five: light the paper and set the bottom of the block in the container of gasoline and acetone.

step six: Run like fucking fuck because you just lit a napalm bomb.
