I have a jewel cichlid tank too. is that peacock fry in the background?

Its very hard to tell the sexes, but usualy the male is a little bit bigger. Other wise you have to wait for when they are breeding.

hey im thinking about breeding jewel fish, is a 20 gallon long tank good enough or a 29, cause i have them both. and how can i tell male and female. i have a 75 gallon after they breed.

@msd1412 ...any tank will do as long as there is some water for them to swim!! Males generally are broader, have prominent forehead and sharper fins tips. However, sexing is easier said than done. Best is to have a small group from which they select their own pairs.
