I have been meaning to do a Christmas song because the season, and because I wanted to learn a Jewish song, but had no time. Instead of doing the expected cheerful carols, I deciced to sing a song I had yet to hear from those I am subscribed to, in orded to avoid copying. Enough of my rambling...So, I sang this acapella and am aware the harmony is slightly unbalanced. I am however, unable to do the fourth harmony because it is too low. Feel free to leave any comments and constructive critisism. Enjoy! ^_^

verses:

1. lullay thou little tiny child bye, bye, lully, lullay lullay thou little tiny child bye, bye, lully lullay

2. O sisters too, how may we do, for to preserve this day this poor youngling for whom we sing by, by, lully, lulay

3. Herod the king in his raging charged he hath this day his men of might in his own sight all children young to slay

4. then woe is me, poor Child, for thee and ever mourn and say for thy parting nor say nor sing by, by, lully, lullay

This song dates back to the 16th century from a play in Coventry, England called "The Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors." The carol refers to the Massacre of the Innocents, in which Herod orders all male infants under the age of two in Bethlehem to be killed. The lyrics of this haunting carol represent a mother's lament for her doomed child. It is the only carol that has survived from this play.

  • Your voice is angelic.

  • @KnightVow Thank you. I'm glad you like it.

  • Thank you for all the nice comments...

  • This is absolutely fabulous. There is one note that sticks out to me every time you sing it, but I think it may just be the arrangement. Are you really 15?!?

  • yeah. I turn 16 at the end of April.

  • You did this whole thing yourself? Bravo!

We did it when I was a child. I was first soprano (boy) but that was taken. Instead, they gave me the tenor, an octave higher, Ha!

Guess which verse I got? "Herod the king.." (Pretty grusome for a seven year old, ha!)

We ended each of the verses minor and only the last one major.

You do it wonderfully to do all the voices. You got the spirit of the song!

These songs told the stories for many who couldn't (or weren't allowed to) read it!

  • One needn't be a professional to create beauty. An unusual and pleasing arrangement, well performed. I hope your talent continues blossoming.

  • Very Beautiful voice.

  • So Beautiful. One of my favorites.

  • I listen to it ome te end of september, onwards to remind myself of the horrors that the human race can inflict on itself.

all those children killed because of the story of Jesus and Herods paranoia.

Not an encouraging thing is it but this song sums it up from a mothers point of view.

  • hahaa!!!! i have found you! XD this is great, and you got quite a few views, i don't know why you're sky about it! you have a wonderful voice, and hahaha, why would you WANT to sing pop anyway/???/ prolly coz you'd wipe a pop signer's arrssssssss
