see that is why you get an engine rebuild.. or supercharge... I had a guy in a supercharged '63 Stingray smoke me .. I had a factory engine in my '85 corvette..I wasn't mad at him tho.. I was dumb for getting a C4... C3's are where its at!!

Oh fellas! Here is the answer!
They do have a transmission, but they are only one speed forward and reverse. When they do the burn out they fully engage the clutch to spin the tires. Then the use reverse to back up to the line. Then the launch to race a pnumatic system slowley engages the multi step clutch allowing it to slip to keep the wheels from spinning. By the end of the race the clutch is fully engaged and has welded itself together from all the heat. They use a new one every race.

@bigdaddy1325 If you really meant Top Fuel, they have 7000HP+ on NM fuel. They have 3 gears, but Im not sure if that refers to fwd-neu-reverse or its actually 3 forward gears. Pretty sure I saw a Top Fuel dragster with a gearbox.

Sorry to disappoint fellas! Most top fuel dragsters are running 1 gear and going 300+ with it and 1500+ HP. granted though, 100 MPH in first gear....maybe while doing a burn out, even then he over reved his engine and it prolly wont last long know!

the thing about the c3 is that in 1971 all cars had to lower emissions by 90% so thats why the c3 lost if this was a 1969 corvette with a 427 wtih 435hp It would be a different story

lol i had a 71 lt1 stingray i yanked out the 454 and dropped in a built correct dated 350 and that damn thing would break 100mph in first gear and i have countless witnesses i have scared the shit out of w/ it lol

Ehhh, don't forget most 70's vettes are Asthma patients without Upgrades, my L82 only had 205hp then they went down hill from 1975 on. Although I'm sure computers do play a factor. Still like my c3 better :)
