FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Yellow Springs residents to rally against severe water damage and neglect at Antioch Colleges historic Main Building - Flooding discovered Saturday threatens conditions of shuttered pre-Civil War campus buildings

Yellow Springs, Ohio, February 9, 2009 — Yellow Springs residents will gather at a press rally at 12:00pm, Monday, February 9, 2009, outside of the Main Building at the Antioch College campus, 795 Livermore Street, in Yellow Springs, to respond to heavy flooding that was discovered in the historic building Saturday. The campus building, with its recognizable towers, was built from 1852 to 1853 and was considered to be the hub of campus activity when Antioch College was open. Main Building has been shuttered since Antioch University officials closed Antioch College in June of 2008, despite national organizing and protests among various groups, including Antioch College alumni, faculty and staff and residents of Yellow Springs.

  • How could an institution that has produced so many distinguished alumni (Congressman Chet Atkins, Coretta Scott King, Congressional Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton, Rod Serling, political scientist Margaret Weir, etc) first of all even close its doors to begin with? I can see colleges with mediocre reputations and a lack of prominent alumni ending up like this, but Antioch? And could someone relate how the plans are progressing for the resurrection of the school?

  • Antioch College did a great job. I got a good education at Antioch

  • I recieved a Masters Degree from Antioch in 2006. Despite all its problems it was a great school.

  • How could the university let this happen to the buildings!!

  • Antioch University------YOU SUCK! Bring back the college! Or at least save the buildings. Shame on you!

  • Destroy Antioch University! Sirk, Faeck, Toni, you are losers and we will drive you out. We will shut down the other campuses, we will dry up your funding. You are shameful fools and we will force you out of higher education.

  • Shame on antioch university to let this happen!
