Freddie loved Lennon and he even wrote a song for him called "Life is real". It's in the Hot Space album. Two genius that I love and miss a lot.

@JPhil151 Given the almost informal nature of this arrangement, I'm sure it was done after the news hit, plus it was a day later in Germany, and I have no doubt that Freddie and the rest of Queen would have known, if not directly, then probably through David Bowie, or Bowie's cronies, or possibly through the record company, maybe even from Yoko herself.
