the dad didn't like the boyfriend, and it was hurting the girl and the boy's relationship, well the dad makes him leave, and while he's driving off, the guy has a car wreck and dies. And its killing her and the dad feels horrible too. so basically its all just flashbacks of their relationship until close to the end.
