This video best enjoyed in HD. Here is a demonstration of soloing the level 60 cap ENM "Automaton Assault" as Ninja in Mine Shaft #2716. The recommended number of participants is 3. All participants must be of the same race and will face NM automatons from the other 4 races. Each automaton will have a weakness and for the most part will be resistant to other forms of damage.

I was inspired to solo this ENM after watching Avesta solo this battle on Red Mage years ago. I know others have accomplished this solo feat before also, and possibly with better style than myself, but this is still is a personal achievement I am happy to have completed. I would not say this fight is extremely difficult to solo with proper preparation, but it is easy for something to go wrong or time to run out. I set playback of this fight to 2 times normal speed aside from the encounter with the Hume Automaton. Since that portion went relatively fast, I felt it deserved a little more air time.

I will share my personal experiences with this fight from the perspective of a solo Ninja Tarutaru:

I chose Dancer as my subjob primarily for some healing capabilities and the ability to use Desperate Flourish (Gravity) on the Galka. I chose to enter this battle at nighttime for the evasion bonus from the artifact legs and the movement speed bonus from artifact boots. Successfully completing this ENM also means finishing within the 15 minute time limit and on this run I was 14:28. I attempt to enfeeble the first three automatons with Blind and Slow, but they seem to resist about half the time even with some gear swapped in. I did not use Ichi enfeebles due to time consuming casting.

Though which automatons appear are based on the race you enter as, they will spawn in the same order each time. When the currently engaged mob is at about 10% health left, the next automaton that was to the right of the current one will begin to pursue. I chose to start with the Elvaan, in order to leave the Hume for last, which for my race is capable of devastating AOE nukes, and I didn't want to be concerned about my health at the end of that fight.

Elvaan - weak to skill chain damage: In my opinion, this is by far the easiest of the four. His accuracy is quite low that keeping shadows up with just Utsusemi: Ni should be sufficient. Fortunately since you won't be doing solo skill chains, physical attacks do normal damage. I attempted to have my second weapon skill finish him off so the Mithra would not show up early.

Mithra - weak to ranged attacks: She can be trouble. Her double attack and fairly decent accuracy can take shadows down quickly. On this run she was more evasive than past attempts, as I went 17/26 on ranged attacks with what I believe was +24 ranged accuracy gear and capped throwing +5 from gear. I could have improved my ranged accuracy more and Quickstep may have help also. I allocate 3 minutes to defeat her and it took at least a minute longer than I would have liked on this attempt.

Galka - weak to magic damage: Spin the elemental wheel on him and if you can land a Desperate Flourish, kiting him makes this quite easy, otherwise straight tanking did not prove to be too difficult either.

Hume (Tarutaru) - weak to physical attacks: Capable of casting tier 2 elemental AOE spells from Stonega II through Thundaga II, which would do from about 330-630 damage to me, depending on the spell. I have never seen this mob cast anything else, though it may be capable of doing so. I also have read it may be possible to interrupt spell casting with a properly timed Blade: Jin, but my previous attempts were unsuccessful at this, so I did not even try this time. I suggest drawing out the first cast and if it is AOE, running a sufficient distance away to avoid damage, keeping in mind the casting range on this mob is wider than normal. After engaging, two Blade: Jin weapon skills along with some normal melee attacks should take down this mob quickly. Bringing an Icarus Wing would be advised along with having at least 100% TP from the previous mob. I went in with the expectation to have to endure two AOE nukes, but only had to endure one this run.
