Exhibition Islam has now constructed its first Interactive Model of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. This model, based on 7th Century Madinah depicts how the City was developed during the Life of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). As seen, the open-air Mosque and was built right next to Prophet Muhammads (peace be upon him) house, where he settled in 622 AD. A square enclosure of 30x35 meters, the mosque was built with palm trunks and mud walls. Inside, the Prophet (peace be upon him) created a shaded area to the South called the Suffrah, and aligned the prayer space facing north towards Jerusalem. When the Qibla (prayer direction) was changed to Mecca, the mosque was re-oriented to the South. The mosque also served as a community Centre, a Court, and a religious school.
