In December 2001, after years living in South Korea and not seeing his family, Jung Jae Song, a North Korean defector, traveled into China determined to reunite and reestablish his family in the South. Risking their lives, his family escaped North Korea, which views defectors as traitors to the motherland punishable by at least 7 years in prison, hard labor or even execution. His family waited for him in China, which denies North Koreans refuge status and returns all North Korean defectors. Going Home is a short documentary about Jung Jae Song's reunion with his family and their journey with 9 other North Koreans throughout China and into Mongolia avoiding the eyes of the law on their search for a new life.
