On June 4th, 2007, Xandros Inc. sold out the Linux community by signing an agreement with Microsoft Inc. to provide patent covenants to Xandros customers. Microsoft is using these agreements to imply that Linux is infringing on Microsoft intellectual property, which it isn't. It's part of Microsoft's marketing strategy of FUD - Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. They can't compete on features such as speed, flexibility, security, stability, or cost, so they scare away the competition's customers. They use their monopoly position to maintain their monopoly.

  • As a long time Lindows, Linspire and now Kubuntu suer, Yes, there were quite a lot of us upset when Xandros caved to M$ as we are quite certain that at some time in the future, it will be used in a court of law as an admission of guilt by the entire Linux community. Whenever you make a bargain with the devil you have to remember that you are the junior partner. Thanks for the videos.

  • I'm still using PCLinuxOS. So's my wife and my sister. One desktop at a time, Linux is winning. Just as Linux is eating Microsoft's lunch, Mac is drinking Microsoft's milk shake. Windows Vista?!? Are people still uninstalling it on new machines to replace it with XP? They should be replacing it with Linux. Bloated Microsoft is its own worst enemy.

  • I have a different perspective, as I have been using M$ and am loooking for an alternative, but one which meshes with what I already have, i.e., I'm looking for a gradual migration from M$ to Linux, with some back-and-forth in a dual boot environment. In this respect, Xandros has some very useful features, notwithstanding the apostasy of their agreement with M$.

  • As a Linux snob, the idea of straddling the line between Windows & Linux is sort of like being half evil. :^) I can understand user's necessity after decades of using Windows, although I don't miss it at all and I'm glad to have flushed the entire MS mess. It's unsustainable. Look at Vista. What crap.

PCLinuxOS allows good interoperability with MS, including SAMBA support for MS networking. I know Xandros was working on some Windows collaboration, but it was stuff I didn't want to perpetuate.

  • @darthchaosofrspw2009 No doubt Microsoft will try to intimidate commercial users of Linux but people aren't buying that so much any more. Is Microsoft going to tell Google they owe them some royalties for not using Windows? Google will tell Microsoft to go pound sand.

  • @darthchaosofrspw2009 The beginning of the end for Xandros was when the Xandros executives cashed out in their deal with the devil, (Microsoft). Microsoft killed off a Linux distro (plenty to take its place), but mostly, they were buying FUD. Microsoft paid Xandros to buy indemnification from Microsoft, which implied that Linux was in violation of some of Microsoft's intellectual property, which is ludicrous given how much Microsoft has stolen from open source (and implemented badly.

  • @Liberty4Ever Windows 7 superbar is actually an idea copied from KDE, and window stabilization in Windows 7 was also taken from KDE as an idea. I saw this function at KDE for the forst time. Look also at the clock / date at the right of Win 7 superbar. It's KDE based.

  • I didn't know that these things happened with Xandros Linux, what a pity. Well Xandros was famous for an easy desktop use, but this part of users can now be covered by Ubuntu or openSUSE.

  • Over at Linux Internationals,we are picking up ever more

Xandros folk..I strongly suspect also they will be next under Microsoft's knife...Seems their forum has turned into a spammers paradise and the mods don't care...Not a good omen. I'm currently using Cosmosis,a very obscure distro a friend in KY put together.

  • Thanks for the video, I just switched to Ubuntu, I hate Microsoft!

  • Linux Rules, Micro$oft drools.

    Kubuntu, Xubuntu user here.

  • fuckin windows nerds!
