Emmanuel House, A Tour of ----Redux

A recut video of the space over which (some) members of Occupy Providence! chose to cease temporary overnight occupation of Burnside Park in exchange for the City of Providence, State of Rhode Island open up a daytime facility/space for those (of us) who are homeless.

Through a long running mediation process, Mayor Angel Taveras, Commissioner Paré ----of Public Safety, a judge, homeless advocacy groups & others settled on the city paying for three months' fees for two case workers to put time in & help all those (of us) who will be spending some time at the center, alleged to have opened up earlier today & help (us) transition into permanent housing, jobs & other benefits the state/federal government are reluctant to extend us. Oh, yeah, members of OP! are invited to volunteer to make the place not only funky, but better than that other joint, i.e. CrossRoads.

According to the city, they'll not only pay for three months this winter, but, they'll do it again next year. Ultimately, despite numerous rumours, this does not convey the end of Occupy Providence!, merely (y)our temporarily ceasing overnight use of Burnside Park. Ours is a major coup, w/out a single arrest, pepper spray or single rubber bullet shot at us. Thereby allowing us to move into another stage & to become ever more liminal/powerful, to go state-wide, take on other issues/cities/groups/corporations.
