I'm a personal trainer and use the standard test kit with all of my clients. I'm going to try the self test fms as I am currently starting my training program for outrigger canoeing. Thanks Grey!

Yes, both movements are in the saggital plane but challenge your ability to stabilize in the frontal plane.

What do you mean? Seated rotation is obviously in the transverse plane. Also, the In-line lunge and the Hurdle step tell you something about the individual's frontal plane stability.
