  • @Susaninmaine. Ok good point. I've changed title to reference and acknowledge the Roches as the songwriters..

  • This is really one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard in my life. The melody is wonderful and the guitars, the vocals, keyboards marvelous. I heard it since the 80's and its a pleasure to me every I heard it. Fantastic work by THE COLOURFIELD.

  • Friggin' brilliant album by a classic mid-eighties band. When the cover is better than the original, you know you've accomplished something.

  • The Roche sisters definitely deserve the credit for writing a great song, but I prefer this version by a mile. Judge for yourself: watch?v=9e3sqtoRG-Y

  • you guys are amazing songwriters! wow, what what inspired you to write this song? oh...what? you didn't write it? um, then why the fuck don't you give credit to the Roches in the title or description instead of passing it off as your own.

  • bloody great many happy thoughts come to mind

  • IAlso, Hammond refers to a town near New Orleans, where two of the Roche sisters went for a year, dropping the music for a time. I think one sister was involved with a man there, who had a yoga center.

By the way, for those who don't know, this original is by the Roches, a group of sisters from the NY area. Many of their songs touch on feminist themes. It is odd to me to hear a group of men singing it, though I like this version, I have always thought of it as a woman's statement.

I think you are both reading too much into the song. I I think it is simply about leaving family, dropping out of school (two of the sisters did) or leaving the group (which also happened), to follow individual dreams. It is definitely not about AIDS, since it came out in 1979. "Disease" is metaphorical - the desire for artistic sucess and to break constraints placed on women growing up in the 50s and 60s. Also, I have never heard any of the Roches had a heroin problem.

i always thought it was about aids ? , not sure now
