We are just conditioned to think that dogs are pets and not food in the same way Hindus are conditioned to think that cows are Sacred and not food.
No need to insult each other. If we can raise pigs and cows for food, then why can't Filipinos and Vietnamese not raise dogs for food in their own country. Just because dogs show emotion doesn't elevate it higher than a cow who plow Philippine fields. We don't own the world. Pets for us can be food for Filipinos, Gods for Hindus can be food for us.

Let's forget for a while that they are feasting on dog meat. This is a very excellent video. A classic illustration of cultural interaction. Two Causcasians saw an Asian custom unfolding, joined the fun, chanting toasting and dining on their table, smoke some pipe etc. Just 40 years ago the caucasians were trying to force and change these people to their image and likeness in a ferocious war. Today they learn to respect who they are and shared with their tradition. Isn't that wonderful.
