How Reading and Writing Begin

I teach ESL to kids in Japan and today I had a problem. We have a class called "writing" and student have their own writing books. My job is to check and correct students' work, but today a 10 yr.old girl wouldn't show me her writing book, but I saw it and just wrote the correction on the board...Then she told her mom she doesn't like me and the mom told my boss...This is a tough situation. Now it says on the video "never correct" - Tell that to my boss, she always tells me to correct - confused
