PGMA Visit to Dagupan City, Pangasinan

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo visited Pangasinan, one of the provinces hardest hit by typhoon Pepeng, to preside the Joint National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) and National Economic & Development Authority (NEDA) Cabinet Meeting in Dagupan City.




The President was given updates by members of the cabinet, armed forces, national police and local government officials on the status of search, recovery and relief operations being implemented in various provinces devastated by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.




She also announced the issuance of an Executive Order creating a Special National Public-Private Reconstruction Commission which is mandated to study the causes, costs and actions to be taken in the wake of typhoons Ondoy, Pepeng and Frank. It will also undertake the rehabilitation plan for wrecked infrastructure and other priorities; raise funds, especially grants, to fund reconstruction; prioritize programs; oversee implementation; serve as clearing house for international assistance implemented by the donors themselves using the cluster approach; and, request the United Nations and the World Bank to coordinate an international pledging session.

After the cabinet meeting, President Arroyo proceeded to Dagupan City Plaza and distributed certified palay seeds to farmer-beneficiaries affected by the recent typhoon, as well as relief good packages to typhoon victims at the Dagupan Astrodome.(NFB/RJU)
