This is the aftermath of the inflight failure of a Castle Creations Ice120HV speed controller. This controller had been test flown previously with no indication of problems, so was taken out for a further flight today. The helicopter was inverted and climbing out when the controller exploded, necessitating an emergency landing into long grass, which then caught fire. The controller, canopy and some wiring was still on fire when we got to the helicopter.

Not happy :-(

  • Greetings from Germany. I was googled on to your video because just this morning my new Castle 160 HV caught fire immediately after the first switch on test. It is mounted in an EDF. I am consolled that mine was not unique. will you decide on an alternative? If so which one?

  • @Antonnick We've decided to go with the Kontronik controller. The new HeliJive that should be available here in Australia shortly.

  • Some say they can't afford to run Kontroniks, I say I can't afford to run anything else.
