I was talking to a buddy of mine about pigeons. She said wild pigeons don't take baths. I said they do. All birds take baths be it water baths, dirt baths or anting. Since half my flock is made of wild pigeons that I was given as babies or rescued birds that were hurt they all do indeed take baths. Birds need to bathe and preen to keep their feathers in order. This is very important for survivial since feathers keep birds insulated, help in communication, in flight and to escape predators. A bird that was dirty would not survive in the wild.
