It kind of looks like you're still in World 2 (the map), but with, as you said, note blocks.

2 years late, i know, but..

It would be likely that you tried to enter a level that was beyond the memory locations supported by the game, as such, It simply loaded the last location which was in the systems ram, In this case, the world 2 map.

I definitely wasn't expecting to randomly run across a code set I put together being used to make a video. How strange a path I took to notice this... skawo90 walkthroughs->skawo90 favorites->SMB3 glitch video->my codes in the annotations. This has gotten me interested in seeing if I've contributed noticeably to any other videos.

Oh yeah and there's some that even cause the game to restart entirely.

Well I just tried all the tiles like the ice bergs and such that act like stages in all the worlds and found a few things like it does this autoscrolling place with random enemies and graphics and one acts like a mushroom house and a couple act like the matching game and there's a couple others that play a messed up version of the music played for the first stage of the game. There's also one other that plays a messed up version of the Princess Peach room music.

I made a video about this myself, apparently you made one first, but there's something you didn't know!

There's a door hidden on the glitched map-like level, if you play a level before it and enter the door it'll warp you to a new area.

In order to go there, You need a hammer, Break the rock a the to right corner of the map, and a path will appear, and, whala! your there!
