Chapulines are considered a delicacy by many Mexicans. They are collected only at certain times of year (from their hatching in early May through the late summer/early autumn). They are thoroughly cleaned and washed out, then toasted on a comal (clay cooking surface) with garlic and lemon juice and sal de gusano to create a sour-spicy-salty taste. Some people will toast their chapuline with chiles. Chapulines are available only in certain parts of Mexico, the state and city of Oaxaca being best known. They are known to have been used as food for over 3000 years.

@NFS13EPIC Oh and they taste like pepitas, the chapulines are fried and seasoned so the taste is very comparable to any other fried seed you can find at your local store.

@NFS13EPIC Man... You're mex and you say you eat at BK and Subway? Listen, my answer was very rude and i apolgize for that but TRY at least once eating a chapulin, it may be a bug but the taste is very good. There's more than Subway and BK here in Mex, and our food beats many other regions so, try it once and then come back and give me your opinion.
