My old 1994 Ford Ranger with a fuel injected 5.0 V8. Engine was lifted from a 1988 Mustang police interceptor. This truck was built by me in 2001.

  • prob an easy swap since the m50d trans is used in the ranger f150 and mustang

  • @snowmobilejon5000 You are mistaken. The M5OD-R1 manual trans is used in the Ranger. The M5OD-R2 was used in F150's and Broncos. A version of the R2 was used in the T-bird Super Coupe, but neither transmission has ever been installed in a Mustang.

All this aside, this particular truck was an automatic. I used an AOD transmission. And it was not an easy swap by any means. It required a lot of custom parts and significant wiring modifications.

  • just wondering what the mpg is on a mainly stock 302 v8 ranger if i do a 302 v8 swap in a 1985-1994 ranger and the mpg with out hot rodding?

  • @richass100 This truck was getting fuel mileage somewhere in the low 20's.

  • i gotta 93 splash that i bought from a guy who was converting it to a v8, its got a custom built 331stroker in it and a rebuilt c4 trans, i still gotta put a 8.8 rear end in it which i have, but its almost done except for i need to figure out how to do my engine harness, how did you do your wiring?

  • @MudBogginBoi94 Layed the Ranger and Mustang wiring harnesses out, stripped off all the loom & tape. Using wiring diagrams for both vehicles, I integrated the two together. It was a whole lot of work. I was completely sick of soldering after I finished it up.

  • ok, im sensing a little bit of an upset tone coming from your reply. just to let you know before you judge me. i have a 1993 F150 and i have a 4in lift picked out from Rough Country, and 33in BFGoodrich All Terrains. I like all cars/trucks. im obsessed with vehicles. there really isnt anything that doesnt look good on a vehicle to me. lowering that ranger would allor the wheels to fill out the wheel wells a little bit better and give it an awsome stance and better handling. thats all.

  • if you plan on doing the swap do alot of research first!! you could spend 500 on msd ignition or go with hei distributor off ebay for 50.. i picked up my truck in running condition 2.3 for 1300 with 250,000 miles and a donor 89 mustang wrecked but in running order for 500 lol i started out wanting efi now in the middle of carbing it so far putting 250 in the swap .. bout 300 more dollars and my truck will be on youtube..i hate wires!! 97 single cab, step side :)

  • Hey! What would it take to put a 1993 5.0 Mustang engine into a 1999? Can you tell me what to expect and what I should think of paying?

  • Richass100: my neighbor has an 88 ranger with an 88 Lincoln towncar 5.0 efi motor with aod trans. He gets about 24 mpg Goin to town and back at around 55 and 60.

  • haha thats cool man.
