They learn the route during training and memorise all the braking points by heart. Drivers rely on visual cues (such as curves/signals/bridges) to determine when to apply the brakes to accurately stop by the stopping mark st stations.

@Tetramesh By the way I don't get the difference between 59 and 62 stock.
One point else: When I was in London, Northern Line was mainly served by 56 stock.

I used to be at tube driver on the district line until someone fell in front of my train and it wasn't the first

Here in Australia our train drivers would have to blow the horn going into tunnels.

Yes, when this was filmed there was only 95 stock running on the Northern Line.

I know. I meant as opposed to both 95 and 59 stock in service on the line at the same time.
